Community partnerships
The Brain & Mind Research Institute has a fundamental commitment to the long-neglected areas of brain and mind disorders, pursuing genuine partnerships with the wider community as a vital part of our research and activities.
Mental Health Council of Australia

The BMRI is a member of the Mental Health Council of Australia. The Council is the peak non-government body representing the mental health sector and has 58 members nationally, including health professional organisations, consumer and carer groups, community sector providers and health research organisations.
The most significant collaboration has been in the production of the seminal Not for Service report, the principal author of which was Prof Hickie, published in 2005 which demonstrated the crisis facing Australia’s mental health system. The link between the two organisations is further strengthened through the joint appointment of Sebastian Rosenberg as Deputy CEO at the MHCA and Senior Lecturer, Mental Health Policy at the BMRI.
The BMRI and the MHCA continue to work together on a range of projects aimed at reforming our mental health system.
Australian Institute of Policy and Science - Tall Poppy Campaign

The Australian Institute of Policy and Science is a national not for profit which promotes Australian scientific and intellectual excellence, encourages younger Australians to follow in the footsteps of our outstanding achievers and acts to build civil society and policy sector understanding of how science can contribute to public policy issues - such as in health. The Institute's Tall Poppy Campaign, including Young Tall Poppy Science Awards and the Howard Florey Medal for a milestone achievement in the biomedical sciences, recognises our brightest minds while also harnessing their capacity to engage the public - whether inspiring more young people to build their scientific literacy and pursue careers in medical, health and other sciences, or through encouraging public access to and understanding of research that is relevant to current policy issues.
